Building Working Class Power Across Western MA

The Western MA Area Labor Federation is a coalition of over 60 unions, and serves as the regional body for the AFL-CIO in Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin & Berkshire Counties.

We organize to build strong unions across the area.

Unions are the backbone of working class political power. We are working to build a movement that can take on bosses and win better lives for working families.

Education & Training

The WMALF’s Education Committee runs training programs to support our local unions and develop worker leaders.

Political Action

The WMALF works to elect pro-union, pro-worker candidates across the four counties. We also support ballot measures that will improve conditions for working families.

Union Solidarity

We show up for our affiliate unions and other unions in the area during their contract campaigns and other actions. If you need support, reach out to the organizer!

New Organizing

We work with the Emergency Workplace Organizing Committee (EWOC) and our affiliate union organizing departments to bring new workplaces into the Labor Movement.

We have an exciting Pioneer Valley Assembly planned for July! First, State Rep candidate and union educator Johnnie McKnight will join us to talk about his campaign here in Springfield. Then, three union organizers will lead us in a panel discussion on open and democratized bargaining. 📣Help us elect a union teacher to the state house! Last month, the Western Mass ALF joined the Mass AFL-CIO board meeting to make endorsements in contested primaries & for union members running for office in Massachusetts. Here are the four endorsements we made for races in Western Mass: Clinicians at JRI are unionizing with @seiu509! Help us tell management to stay neutral in the election by signing the petition. Calling Western Mass Union Members: join us next Monday for the WMALF Delegates Meeting! We'll be planning our Labor Day Cookout, reporting back from the AFL-CIO Convention & Labor Notes, and sharing how to get involved in the campaign to elect a union member to the state house! The Western Mass Area Labor Federation is proud to share our support for Johnnie McKnight, an active union member and public school teacher running for State Rep in Springfield's 11th Hampden District. Save the date for the Massachusetts Girls in the Trades Conferences and Career fairs this November! The Building Trades Unions offer a pathway to life-long careers with excellent pay, healthcare plans, pensions, and more. The Square Strike is entering its second week! To help educators and staff keep up the fight for a living wage, we are raising funds for a supplemental strike fund! On Monday, show support for @bfmc_nurses by joining an MNA Banner Action at the Baystate Health & Wellness Center in Northampton.
