The Western Massachusetts Area Labor Federation is happy to announce its endorsement of Al Simon for Northampton City Council in Ward 2. Al Simon has been a tireless advocate for school funding and other unionized public services in Northampton.

Al Simon made the following statement following his endorsement by the Western Massachusetts Area Labor Federation:

“I will always be on the side of working people building power to improve their lives. I come from a family of textile workers who long ago felt the power of an employer determined to smash their union. Justice for all will never be achieved without a vibrant and growing labor movement. Thank you for siding with me in my race for City Council in Northampton.”

Hampshire-Franklin Labor and Workers Assembly President and MNA Representative Rose Bookbinder explains why the Board voted to endorse Al:

“Al Simon is an experienced municipal leader who spent decades in Connecticut fighting for, and winning, stronger funding for public schools. Since moving to Northampton many years ago, Al has taken the lead in raising awareness and educating the public on Northampton’s opaque budgeting process.

“Al works day in and day out in Northampton, advocating for our common good, our schools, and our public services. He has inspired many to see that change is possible and that progressive values can and should be represented in city budgeting priorities. As a City Councilor in Ward 2, Al is committed to helping to foster a transparent budget process that puts the needs of Northampton residents and workers first.”

In solidarity,

The Western Massachusetts Area Labor Federation Executive Board
